This Privacy Policy describes how Lyra collects, uses, protects, and discloses personal information provided by families (“you,” “Parent,” or “Family”) when using our Services. Lyra is committed to safeguarding your privacy while delivering personalized, high-quality homeschooling support.2. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to all information collected through: our website and digital platforms, lesson plans and educational services, and communications between Lyra and families. This Policy applies to families in the United States and its territories. Lyra does not currently serve international families.3. Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
Parent Information: names, contact details, billing information, communication preferences. Child Information: names, ages, grade levels, learning styles, interests, accommodations, and optional religious or philosophical values (if voluntarily provided).
Usage Data: interaction with lesson materials, platform usage metrics, communication records. Technical Data: device identifiers, IP addresses, browser type, cookies.
Sensitive Preferences. Any religious or philosophical preferences you provide are optional and processed solely to tailor lesson plans at your direction.4. Legal Basis for Collection
Lyra collects and processes personal information only with parental consent, consistent with: • COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act): parents provide and control all information for children under 13.
• State data security laws: including Massachusetts standards for protecting personal information (201 CMR 17.00).
• Contractual necessity: data required to deliver Services.5. How We Use Information
We use personal information for: delivering personalized lesson plans and educational guidance; assisting with optional state filing paperwork; improving and refining Services; complying with legal obligations; and communicating with parents regarding Services. We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the Services We do not sell personal information.6. AI-Generated Content & Data Use
Some lesson plans are generated or enhanced using artificial intelligence (“AI”). To improve personalization, anonymized or aggregated child profile information may be processed by AI systems under Lyra’s strict controls. No child-identifiable data is sold, shared, or used for unrelated commercial purposes. Children’s personal data is stored separately from parent-identifiable information. We do not disclose children’s personal data to third parties for marketing or profiling.7. Children’s Privacy
We obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from children under 13, via methods such as (i) signed consent through DocuSign, (ii) a nominal parent credit-card transaction, or (iii) a supervised video verification. We provide direct notice to parents describing what we collect, how we use it, and the parent’s rights to review and delete the child’s information.8. U.S. State Privacy Laws
We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by CPRA) and do not process for targeted advertising as defined by Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or other state laws. Where applicable, you may appeal a denied privacy request by emailing [email protected] with “Appeal” in the subject line. We respond within 45 days (or as extended by law). We may verify a parent’s identity using information already on file, a signed declaration, or a nominal card transaction before fulfilling access, deletion, or export requests. We retain request logs for compliance.9. Data Retention
Personal information is retained for the duration of enrollment plus 24 months, unless longer retention is required by law. Backup and archival copies may persist for a limited period as required by law or for legitimate business continuity.10. Data Security
Lyra implements industry-standard technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect data, including: encryption of data in transit and at rest; restricted employee access; regular audits and monitoring; compliance with Massachusetts data protection standards. We maintain a written information security program (WISP) consistent with 201 CMR 17.00 and will provide a summary description upon request. In the event of a data incident involving personal information, we will provide notice to affected parents and regulators as required by applicable law. No system is entirely secure; parents acknowledge that providing data always carries some risk.11. Disclosure of Information
We may disclose information only in limited circumstances: to service providers under strict confidentiality agreements; to comply with legal obligations; to protect the rights and safety of Lyra, families, or others; or with parental consent. We engage vetted service providers (e.g., hosting, payments, e-signature, analytics) under written data-processing terms requiring confidentiality and security. Data may be stored in the United States and, if necessary, processed in other jurisdictions by our service providers under contractual safeguards. We do not disclose children’s personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.12. Parents’ Rights
Parents have the right to: access the personal information Lyra holds about their child(ren); request correction or deletion of such information; withdraw consent to future data collection; and request an export of their family’s educational records. We use strictly necessary and functional cookies; we do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.14. Third-Party Links
Lyra’s website or communications may contain links to external websites. Lyra is not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. Families are encouraged to review external privacy policies before sharing personal data.15. Changes to Privacy Policy
